Great shots of the Quabbin.

I took part in a different fall ritual...Sunday afternoon at a football game (with my daughter cheering on the sidelines). During the second half, these two eagles flew overhead and put on a quite an air show.

Canon XSi with a 55-250mm zoom lens. I was lucky to have the long lens on the camera at the time (so I could take pictures of my daughter without her realizing). They were visible at low altitude for perhaps two minutes. There were a couple hundred people at the game and dozens were watching the birds.

The eagles were doing aerobatics, chasing each other and tumbling and darting. After consulting my bird reference books I believe that behavior was part of the courtship ritual for eagles. They form pair bonds this time of year, then build a nest over the winter, then mate in the spring and raise their brood through summer.

The football field is maybe 1/2 mile from the Chicopee River. I've seen a single bald eagle perched along the river a few times in recent years and I've seen an eagle overhead several times this year. Seems like Wilbraham is a good place to be an eagle.

Great shots both Bones and Glowcat13

We have a bald eagle eyrie right next to us at work (3 chicks raised this year) so I often se them out my window (I work in an office on the docks of Vancouver, BC).

Even though they are a common sight, i never tire of the majesty.

I have never seen the courtship, but I have seen two osprey mating in the air - they fly high, lock talons, and must be quick or they hit the ground.

Although I have had Miss Jaffa (Burnt Orange 2007 Versys) for a while, I still have a lot to learn.
