Harley Kool-Aid

I haven't drunk it but a friend of mine sure has. Other day I volunteered to ride a good friend of mine to pick up a new bike he'd purchased. He asked me to drive as he didn't really wanna ride b*tch on my bike. I said fine and agreed. Well when I get to his house and get him he's like a kid at Christmas and is saying how the test bike had "no plastic anywhere" and "horn is as loud as my truck's", "quality workmanship", "get what you pay for" etc... He suggested I think about getting one and I laughed and told him I hadn't drank their kool-aid and he laughed.

When we walked into the showroom he told the salesman he'd brought in "another customer" and I immediately begged to differ but agreed to wait around to see his bike after he signed everything. I didn't realize "everything" was going to take 40 minutes! To kill time I walked around the showroom and since they didn't have an xr1200 it took all of 10 minutes. The two coolest bikes to me were a 1999 dual sport 'military' thumper in od green and the buell used for rider training. I had two sales people come up and I told them I was just waiting (and waiting) on a friend.

Funniest moment had to be when I overheard a lady say "You have the largest selection for large women than I've ever seen...1x, 2x, 3x"

When my buddy finally came out we got to go look at his new baby. As we walked to the "delivery room" I chuckled as we passed the drink and snack machines as even they had the hd logo on them. More power to the folks who luv em but I just wanted to run screaming out of there.

Impossible to tell. They all look the same (to me anyway). I had a friend do the same thing. Got a big bagger. I'll give him this much, he rides it, a lot, all over the place. Within two weeks everything he owned had a HD logo on it, down to his coffee thermos. Whatever.

You have to hand it to HD. They sell a lifestyle and an image, not just motorcycles. I have noticed that most people who own Harley's own gobs of HD merchandise.

I'd have to say if there were a few Versys items I might buy a few but not every bit of clothing and every day items as well.

Thanks for the funny story!

Yea, you may have come along too late, but at one time, Contractor had a bunch of shirts made up. I have one, and it's really nice.

Think and say what you will about the Motor Company, but it's their success as a motorcycle company that has afforded them the opportunity/luxury to brand whatever they want to.

I too, have drunk from the same spigot, but my eyes still look at all bikes with interest

Harley's are good for carrying two middle aged overweight people on the interstate.
Not my cup of tea. I like to smoke em at green lights on my Suzuki. We all heard about power to weight ratio. How about power to noise ratio, good grief. Kawasaki Concours is at the top of my list for future bikes.

i love my versys and it does everything i want.

but i must admit that, one day, i will have a harley. by no means will it ever be my #1 bike, but i'd love to have one to cruise around on. i love the "cross bones" springer that was out a couple of years ago and i like the "road glide".

that being said, it will be along time before i ever buy one. my wife will probably want her own bike in a couple of years, and sometime before then i'll probably buy a bike more suited for 2 up sport touring or 2 up adv touring. a harley is probably 5-10 years down the road. maybe i'll change my mind by then

for now i'm happy with the cheap, capable, comfortable and unique v

LoneRanger, I'm not sure but he did joke that the bank owns it and they're just letting him ride it for a while. I'd guess up near 20k maybe?
