going to work on day off

Had to go to work today for a 2 hr safety meeting so since it was my day off and do not get paid thought i would ride the bike to work and ride around the narrow roads around the area. work is 30 km away from my house. work for a outfit called fonterra and this is the clandeboye site.
This site is currently at near peak processing over 12.5 million litres of milk per day. The 5 coal fired boilers are chewing through just under 600 tonnes per day of coal to produce steam at 35 bar or 507 psi for the main users of 3 giant milk powder driers as well as a whey protein concentrate (wpc) drier, 2 cheese plants, butter plant and various other stuff. This plant was 2 nd largest plant of its type in the world but has dropped back to 3rd but if they built a 4th drier it would be the biggest.

Enough of that just though some of you may be interested, just one more shot of the ride home and i gave it heck especially after a 2 hr discussion on compulsory safety glasses, site smoking policy etc.

added in a couple of pic's of big snow storm 06

Very interesting Kiwi...and going to work on your day off, no pay?! WOW,how do they do it? That shows dedication on your part for sure. Can't see people showing up at work for no pay anytime soon over here...unless it's a party or a picnic.

At least you got a ride out of working on your day off. I get Comp Time sometimes, but never seem to have time to take it.
I think wool and dairy are the chief exports of New Zealand, so that must be a busy plant!

Dairy is NZ main exporter, we have 9 sites in the states with a 50/50 joint venture with dairy farmers of America. In fact there are as many sites offshore as in NZ.
The company I work for was formed 9 years ago as a mega merger of NZ dairy companies so they would be stronger as one voice on world stage. They process 90% of NZ milk. http://www.fonterra.com/wps/wcm/conn...erra.com/Home/
It is a vey busy plant as we at peak and any mistakes and milions of litres of milk have to be shipped south or across cook strait to north island. The site i work at has 70 truck/trailor units of its own going 24/7

Just some more work pic's for anyone that is interested, first day back on shift today and our sister mega dairy site (edendale)tipped over yesterday due to compressors problems and since we are sending them 1.3 million ltrs of milk a day it now has to be sent across the cook strait to the north island plus there shortfall with being off production.

Boilers 1/2 40Mw each and produce 61 tonne/hr of steam each at 500 psi.
the steam drum of boiler 1

pic from a distance of the 5 boilers in operation, the two to the far left are boilers 4/5 which ar 20 Mw boilers, right beside them is boiler 6 which is a 30 Mw boiler then boilers 1/2. The combine output of these 5 boiler will eveporat 225 tonnes of water in a hour at full noise and turn it into 500psi, there is a 6th boiler which is 10 Mw but it is to small and now redundant and will be dismantled by xmas.

walkway from boilers 1/2 to boiler 6

Detroit spreader feeding boiler 1

control room, all boilers and all utilities (compressors, water, refrig plant etc) plants are controlled on site from here using these HMI's.

I see bear you were waiting for the cub well my wife turned up today at work, she was a bit nervous as she does not ride alone but it such a nice day she rode her horse in morning then rode out mid afternoon to see on her bike, she has not been to work for years so being such a fine day thought she would ride out to tease me about having to work on a beautiful fine sat.
