R.I.P. Cycle News Magazine

For those with Cycle News magazines subscriptions. Apparently they shut down today after 50 years. Sad days.

I think you are reading too much into other stories

It has changed hands, and a lot of staff are leaving per this August 9 story

Staffers Leave After Hachette Moves Cycle World Under Jumpstart Auto Group
By Alex Alvarez on Aug 09, 2010 01:01 PM

More movin' and shakin' going on at Hachette: The company is moving Cycle World magazine under the umbrella of its Jumpstart Automative Group, which also includes Car and Driver, Road & Track, and ten other auto-related titles.. The group will oversee all the operations of the title, including the magazine's print and digital ad sales.

Chief brand officer Larry Little will be leaving the company as a result of the change. Senior-level marketing executive Andrew Leisner will take over the role, and will oversee sales and revenue strategies for Cycle World, Folio: reports.

Cycle World's vice president and brand publisher Paul Labella, as well as others at the magazine, are also leaving due to the change.

Their website is still up, and they are soliciting subscriptions (Cycle News).

This is from Michelle who worked for CN.

Let me clear up all the rumors and you guys can be the first to know. The owner pulled the plug today. No more Cycle News.
And for the record, now that I have no one to not get into it, and not to start a battle in the forums with all the haters, it made me sick and sometimes angry all the negative crap posted in this forum and in the comments of our site. But I bit my tongue for years and just tried to work harder and do a better job.
For all those who supported us (which I think far outnumber the haters) and who had our back, thank you. Couldn't have done it without you. We had a good run of almost 50 years of reporting motorcycle history in bikes and racing and it is a tragic loss to our sport.
I don't speak for CN or anyone else but me.
I'm just a race fan and motorcycle rider who landed a cool job with cool people and worked as hard as I could.
Now, does anyone have a job lead for me? sigh. ~Michelle

Sorry about CN and your job. You might contact Kawasaki's web folks because they could use some help. I contacted them to ask why the 2010 Versys SERVICE manual is not available for purchase on their website's store and got no response...at all. Irvine is a pretty nice place.

Someday is not a day of the week.

Thanks for clearing that up!! I was thinking YOU were Michelle. And I was wondering who's been bad mouthing their mag from our site, I can't remember anyone bad mouthing any mags over here. So that helps clear up the mystery!

As I understand it, the vast majority of the staff was let go. The Sep 8th issue is already in print and will be the final issue. I imagine the website will linger for a bit with no updates and will eventually fall off the radar when the host pulls the plug.
