Cricket

I take it people from India/South Asia follow cricket very closely.

We had an auditor (originally from India) in the office the last two weeks and we periodically take breaks to found out about wickets, overs, sixes, fours and it seems Kiwis have spinners.

I thought there was a Cricket World Cup last year in Australia, but it seems there is another this year in India. Are they playing a shorter version of the game this time?

I was told to watch the "last three balls" (I think that's right) of the India-Bagladesh match. Did the batsman on the last ball have to run? That is, could he have stayed in the box and had another ball bowled to him?

The only reason a extra ball would be bowled was if the bowler for example bowled a no ball which would be if his foot over stepped line before he released the ball or bowled it on the full above waist height or bounced it over batsmans shoulder height then a extra ball has to be bowled, think of it like a foul ball in base ball.

In answer to your question, batman may as well run because game was over after the last ball was bowled, if he had of made his ground and made a run the game would be tied, if he did not run they were going to lose anyway ( they needed 1 run to draw 2 runs to win) so nothing to lose going for a suicidal run. If the fielding team had a stuff up and thrown a wild ball at the wickets and missed the batters could of tried for a 2nd run to win game so that is why the wicket keeper did not throw the ball but ran up to knock the bail off the wickets.

If you guys beat on each other's shin bones with square bats, I'm not going to argue with you. You can claim all that and more.

All that and not a word about Rugby!?

I see they've retained the Union Jack for a while.

Flag vote went 57% to keep current flag, my view the flag vote should of been tied in with a vote on becoming a republic.

On our rugby world champs no need to say to much. slit the throat haka for your enjoyment.

This ones pretty cool, this is the 2011 rugby world cup final, NZ v France. The French started advancing to challenge the Haka, lot of feeling in that game but the blacks won.

Phil - THANKS for that one, too! If I ever get back to NZ (flew in there in 1971 in my RCAF days...), I would NEED to see a 'haka' by Maori...!

England makes it to the final. Indians will be playing West Indies shortly and the winners will play England. Being Indian, I am hoping India will make it.
