Typical California Lane Splitting

Always a big debate. Most people against it have never done it. If done properly its beneficial to everyone on the road. You can't be timid and need to have good balance of your bike. Watch the front wheel or nose of the cars you want to get by that will let you know if they are coming over. Make sure you can judge the width of your bike on the move. Don't just ride along with the cars your splitting get on by them. Keep your clutch & brakes covered and a thumb close to the horn. Watch for cars crossing the double yellow to get into the car pool lane without checking to see if its clear. Treat it the same as if you were riding in an area at night that has a lot of deer...........Typical Lunch Time.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6fEv8zZqb4

The choice in CA is lane-split or sit in traffic hours a day with the cars. Once you get the 'nads to do it (and it takes a little while), you find out it is infinitely safer than waiting for a car to climb over you. There are just too many people driving cars here.

Wrecks sprinkle the highways and are a cause of much of the traffic congestion on the expressways (esp. at interstate crossings.) Even expressway exit signs, you are often given one mile time to react ONLY: not multiple exits notice. So if trucks are lined in front of your ONE sign's notice, you are screwed. ALL expressway exits everywhere are ONE sign's notice, and people freak out when they start to pass their exit swerving wildly so they do not take an hour in traffic (at best) to get back on course.

Everyone knows everywhere that wrecks happen in multiple occurrences because people get complacent and anxious at the same time. it's like blue-hairs (old people) and teenagers on spring-break in FL driving together: not good.

It would be almost impossible to live in CA without riding motorcycles if you commute daily, imo.

Something i make a point of doing is to wave to anyone that pulls over in the lane to give me more room to get by. Want them to know that they are appreciated...

Being a Cali rider, I can definitely agree with this. Unlike your recent post (now nowhere to be found) about trump.... You for real about that claim? Lest we forget who actually found and took out Bin Laden.

I don't lane split since I'm pretty sure it's illegal here but do sometimes catch a shoulder to get to an empty right-turn lane. When you think about it that is much more dangerous since the pickups can get frustrated and make a quick jag to the right w/o signaling.

Man I can see that where Motorist are used to it and see it on a semi daily basis, but down here I think you'd get run over. I have no doubts about my ability and balance, but even if it became legal here I think it would still be a few years before I did it on a semi regular basis. I do it (rarely) when Im at an intersection and within at least seeing distance of the stop light etc.. And it usually ( for me) involves someone refusing to turn right on a red and I get impatient and just slip by.
