New 2015 Versys 650LT

Just bought this bike, love it. BUT..... I've been to 2 dealers and nobody can figure out how to detach the KQR 28L saddlebags. There was no manual or instructions in the bags and the instructions for the bags as accessories for the 650ABS don't work (they have different mounts).

Anyone have any feedback?
Thanks

I am sure you thought of this, but it looks like there are downloadable instructions on the Kawasaki Site. Good luck

Yes, been there. Different mounts on the bags sold as accessories to the Versys 650 ABS. Thanks.

I bought a '15 650 LT last month. My saddle bags come off like in the instructions but they are tight and a little tricky to get off and back on.
Key in & turn
Lift lever
Work back and out
They lock in at two points along the top and slip over a rubber piece at the bottom front.

I've not taken mine off of my 2-week-old 2015 LT model yet. I've thought about it but it just makes sense to keep them on as I use the bike for commuting and use the bags to hold my lunch and other small items. Perhaps one day I'll pull them off just to see how it rides without them.

As for your question, you should be able to swing by the dealership and they'll no doubt be glad to explain the removal process to you. After all, they just sold the bike to you and little favors like showing one how to operate the bike is part of the sale. Other than that, their PDF is here; I'm not sure if it's been updated since you last looked but the ABS & the LT models should use the exact same frame and mounting system for those bags.

Question for you (and other late-model owners) though... As a fellow 2015 LT owner, do you have a hard time finding the sweet spot for the key now and then? I find that I need to put the key into the hole and move it in and out - fractions of an inch - to find the spot where the tumblers will finally allow the lock to open up and grant me access to my stuff in those bags. (Wow, part of the sentence really sounds bad....)

One of the bags on mine is a bit tighter fitting than the other. The tighter one takes a bit of jiggling to get it in the sweet spot to install it. To remove one, I stand next to the bike in front of the bag, then bump it rearward with my knee. They come off quite easily with that bump.

No issues with the key. It fits perfectly.

2015 Versys 650LT bags

The dealer where I purchased the bike couldn't seem to be able to get the bags off. So, I contacted Kawasaki and spoke to Tim who linked me up to the bags that come as accessories (which have a slightly different mount). He then went to the promotion people (I think) who showed him how to get them off. After unlocking, you have to keep hitting the front of the bag with the heel of your hand REARWARD and they eventually detach. The top clip acts a bit funny.

I haven't noticed anything with the key yet (sweet spot).

Thanks for the replies.

Not really. ALL three of my Vs basically had 'sweet-spots' in the ignition key slot. The '15 one is just DIFFERENT...!

Oh yah - ...

I would add (just in case) that the bag-release lever is in front of the bag-opening mechanism. Pull up on it to unlock.

PS. I have a V1000 but I'm sure the bags are the same. Also the head mechanic at the dealer said the mechanisms were the same as the ones on the Concours.
