NorCal Concours Owner

Hello everyone! I own a 2013 Kawi Concours that I bought new in Feb of 2014. I'm considering switching it up for a 2015 Versys 650 LT.

Love doing overnight camping on the motorcycle in and around the Sierra foothills in CA.

Trying to get my two posts in so I can start a thread on the subject.

Mike

2012 Kawi KLR650
1983 Kawi GPz550

Is a Versys 650 on the horizon???

G'day Mike from down under, got any pics of your GPz? I had an 82 which was my first brand new motorcycle I ever owned.

I loved that bike and would love to get another one. I have ridden a GTR1400 (what you guys call the Concours) and it is my dream touring bike although the Versys is damned good.

the GTR is bit heavy for overland tour-IMHO.

The versys set a new frontier in overland tours.

Having had both a Concours and Versys 650 at the same time, I will say that you will miss the Concours unless you never tapped into the power it has.

That said, the Versys 650 is the one bike I would keep if I could only keep one bike that I currently own.

Yes, I'm sure I will miss it if I do the switch. I'm just a tired of the overall weight of the bike.

Thanks, I've only done 44,000 km in 2 and a half years on the Versys.

I came from a first generation Concours to the 09 Versys. Connie was a great bike but I do not miss the weight.

I remember planning on buying a GPz 550 in 1982, but bought a used Daytona Special instead (which I should have kept!!!). I did eventually own a 1996 GPz 1100 that I purchased new though.

That's what did it for me too Mike (switched from a '99 Conk, as you know), was the weight and also the 80's technology on the original Concourses. I thought I had the right bike all along until this Spring and suddenly I knew I'd be happier with a Versys. Plus it's nice to just pick it up off of the kick stand and push it into the garage. With the Conk, I'd have to ride it into the garage. ha.

Same for me. I found the weight was getting to be a problem for my aging frame, tough to push around and I was getting edgy about putting my feet down at stops. I had a foot slip on some sand and wrenched my knee holding the bike up. It was a great touring bike, I had both first and 2nd generation and put about 180000 km on them.

The V easily out-handles the Concours, and they were no slouch in the twisties either, but that weight....
