The stock one is washable. You need to let it dry overnight before re-oiling it. I saw a great youtube video (somewhere) on how to remove the filter foam from its frame for easy cleaning. The frame is held together with plastic pins. You can gently pry open the "pins" from the frame, and take the foam out, then clean, dry and oil it before putting it back together. I use "Simple Green" biodegradable cleaner and water to clean my foam air filters. If its real dirty, it may take a couple of soakings and rinsings to get it completely clean.
I also have a BMC filter sitting on my workbench. I plan on trying it when I get time to fiddle with it. It looks very well made. Sturdier than the stock set up.
