Hello from San Francisco!

Hi!

My name is Patrick Shaughnessy and wanted to stop by to say "hi"! I have an '05 FJR 1300 and my wife, Christiane, has an '09 Versys 650. We enjoy riding the Santa Cruz Mtns. and Napa/Anderson Valley north of San Francisco.

We are looking for guidance on a trip through Canada-land (San Fran to BC, turn right, and then head east!) and appropriate mods for her Versys (named Smurf for obvious reasons!).

I'll be asking for guidance on soft luggage, taller windscreen, and other farkles.

I work in consumer finance, formerly of TransUnion. If I can ever answer questions about credit scores, credit bureaus, interest rates or the like, please ask.

Thanks and regards,
Patrick
PS: still trying to post a pic., all mine have to be re-sized smaller and I don't know how to do that (yet!)

posting photos are much easier and you can size them however you want if you use a Flickr account or one of the others out there...

And let me know if you'd like some suggestions on where (OR where NOT) to ride on your trip into the "Great White North"....

from SF! Sounds like a great ride y'all have planned.

I've done some trips up through the Sierras and Cascades, and there are some beautiful and amazing roads up there! I'm totally in love with the Southern Cascades in Oregon.

I've got a 2011 and there are two things I would highly recommend for adding to the bike for long distance riding. 1) An Airhawk seat cushion. 2) A taller windscreen (if she finds that there's a lot of wind noise with the current windscreen). I get really really tired of the wind noise after the first day of riding, even wearing earplugs. I've done fine without highway pegs on long trips, but I'd probably add them for my next one.

Cheers!

Welcome aboard!

I use Chrome browser, and have extensions that automatically resize posted photos on any site. Also, if photos are normally taken with your phone, get the imgur or flickr app, and upload them from there and grab the [IMG] [/IMG] code from the respective website.

But, weljo seems to have(had) both of your bikes, no need to post photos of yours. :P

Yosemite National Park, Tioga Rd, and Lassen Park Highway Update

San Francisco Chronicle, May 4, 2015, B2, Tom Stienstra

For those who love the high Sierra, winter's low snowpack translates into a spectacular bonus: an extra month of access and spring-like conditions this May.

The latest is that in Yosemite, Tioga Rd and Lassen Park Highway opened this past w'end. Tioga Rd. connects Highway 120 from Crane Flat up pat Tenaya Lake, Tuolumne Meadows, Lyell Fork and Lembert Dome en route to Tioga Pass. But, all commercial services are still closed.

To the north, the 30-mile Lassen Park Highway/CA 89, which connects the park from north to south, was opened Sunday past the flank of Lassen Peak.

The trail to Bumpass Hell is closed.

All trans-Sierra routes are now clear and opened.

For those who love the high country, this is a special opportunity for early May. (end)

Ed's note: typed, not cut and pasted so it's not the full article. Left out parts about the open and closing in April of Highway 4. Of course, caveat emptor, another check through the CHP couldn't hurt.

Taller Windscreen? '09 650.

A taller windscreen (if she finds that there's a lot of wind noise with the current windscreen).

Cheers!
BaileyMan[/QUOTE]

@BaileyMan: if you have suggestions for WHICH taller windscreen, I would be appreciative. There just seems to be so much to choose from. . . Any guidance would be appreciated.

@FastEddie,

YES, please! Any guidance would be appreciated. We will not be off-roading/adverure-ing. Strictly pavement. I read your posts and saw your picture, incredible! thanks for sharing. We won't be that far north. More like the Trans-Canadian Highway. 50% camping, 50% hotels.

Thanks,
Patrick
