New Versys rider

Hi, I got my Versys a couple months back. I also ride a Yamaha Tmax scooter. I bought the Versys because I had a vstrom 650 a few years ago that I really liked and the Versys is similar. So far I really like it and look forward to putting some miles on it. I live in Colorado now, but I'll be returning to the southeast this summer.

How does the Versys compare with the V Strom? I'm another new Versys rider and love it.

Its been about 6 years since I rode the Strom, but from what I can remember:

The vstrom has a smoother (less buzzy) engine with a lot more engine braking. The Versys has better power from 2000-6000 rpm and is less abrupt on the throttle. The vstrom was physically larger and steered slower due to the 19" front wheel. I got about 5 mpg better on the vstrom. Overall, and this is probably blasphemous here, I would have bought a vstrom if they were the same price, but I've found the Versys to be a much better value on the used market.

The differences are small in my opinion, not enough to justify the average $1000 price difference on the used market.

Oh, and the Versys looks a lot better, the vstrom was ugly.

One of my friends just recently sold her V-Strom. 7 years old with 40,000 miles, one of the indicators hanging on by duct tape, had occasional starting issues and would need a bump start. Sold it for $4000. It even needed a bump start when the buyer took it for a test ride. He still bought it and didn't haggle. I thought it was vastly over priced but it was priced cheaper than others on the market and last year she had been hoping to get over $6000 for it
Don't understand why that bike holds it's value so well compared to the Versys.

Alba, I'm not sure either. I bought my 2005 vstrom with 8000 miles on it in 2007 for $4500. It would sell for close to that today.

Welcome you guys.

Yes, the 'Strom a great bike. A different design to their twin cylinder "mill" of course, theirs going to be a different deal/riding experience certainly. I never owned a Strom, I would if I could have got it as cheap as I stole my Versys. I used to put new 'Stroms together at a dealership. I enjoyed "building" the "Strom Adventures, with crash bars and panniers. Excellent bike... sometimes the "test rides" got extensive
