Count down to versys!

My wife and I made a deal that I'd wait a year before purchasing a new bike after selling the KLR. March 19th is the date. My kids periodically tell me how many days are left in the countdown (as if I didn't already know because I count down EVERY DAY! lol). I was quoted $10,445 OTD for a 650LT versions without any additional upgrades in California. Any thoughts on that price.

And hi! I'm John.

California's tough because you can ride year round so the dealers have an upper hand. You can't bring a bike in from out of state unless it has 7500 miles on it or your in the military. Since you still have time check out dealers all over the state a road trip might be well worth it.

I am in Texas and I'm getting mine for 8850 OTD. Honda East in Toledo is lower still (not by much).

John, it sounds like you're getting charged full MSRP + TTL and whatever else. I liked the idea of trying the Costco buying program. OR, shop around. Here's the Honda East (Toledo) quote you can use as leverage that someone got and posted over on ADVrider:

"Contacted Toledo East Honda for a price for a white LT, below is what they emailed to me.

Mike,

Thanks for contacting me about this bike. Here is the breakdown on the price
of this bike with MI sales tax.

Sale Price- $8,149.00
Freight and prep- $0.00
Document fee- $95.00
Taxable total- $8,244.00
Sales Tax - 6.00%
Tax, Total- $494.64
Title fee- $15.00
Temp tag- $18.50

Out the door price- $8,772.14

We won't be getting for inventory until Spring, but can order one for you,
if you need it sooner. I would need $200 down to make that happen.

Store Hours: Mon & Thrs- 9:30 to 8:00 Tues, Wed & Fri- 9:30 to 6:00 Sat-
9:30 to 4:00"

What dealer ship did you use if you don't mind sharing.

I am pricing the local dealers around here but i will go on a round trip to pick it up if i can get a good price somewhere else.

SC is just across the river.

I know you are looking at the 650, but I just purchased a 2015 Versys 1000LT here in Westfield, IN for 10,999. $12,400 OTD incl 7% tax, delivery, and prep charges.

Thanks for the welcomes... and advice. I don't remember dealers sucking THIS bad! So far I can't get any (but 2) of them to contact me back. I went into 2 dealers and was ignored by both. Not a hello, a how are you, or what the hell do you want. I talked to the one closest to me on the phone and let them know I was given an offer by the one dealer I received a quote from. He said they didn't have any yet and that he'd look into it for me. That was a week ago. It was one of the dealers that ignored me when I was there. At this point I am going to factor in the customer service to some extent. I'm tired of poor service.

John,

This is something of a shot in the dark because I don't know where in California you're located but I did a bit of research and played with the numbers I located.

First, MSRP for the 2015 650 LT is $8699 - a starting point for what follows. A Cal state web site calculates sales tax as $783 and registration/title fees as $141. That's for LA county but I chose what I thought might be an expensive county for arguement sake. From the dealer's OTD total of $10445 subtract the $8699 MSRP and $783 and $141. That leaves $822 unaccounted for. This amount could only be dealer charges - destination charge, assembly, document fee, it's Tuesday and you have blond hair fees, and God knows what else. Seems rather greedy to me.

Seems to me they aren't very interested in selling to you or they're very confident about selling all they can get at full price no matter who might walk into their dealership.

Shop around; you're likely to find a better deal from a customer oriented dealer. Have to believe California still has a few around.
