Saturday is the DAY!

Hey all!

I'm picking up an '09 off the showroom floor for $6300 out the door. That includes all Md. tax, tags, and title. Purchase price is $5299. I don't understand why Md. has to dig so deep into the wallet, but what the hey, you only live once. I'll be riding it home, about 50 miles, does anyone see a problem with that? I mean as far as the break in goes? I'm super excited, as this will be my first NEW purchase

Well CONGRATULATIONS....

That is one heck of a price...for one heck of a bike.
Is the Versys your first bike???

Just remember to keep it around 4000 RPMS or lower for the first 500 miles or so. ( the manual says 4k rpms for the first 500 miles...then you can run her up to 6k rpms for the second 500). After that....let her rip.......By the book.

One more thing....Don't get to aggressive on the turns until the tires get scrubbed in a bit...(don't want your new mean motor scooter slppin' out from under you.

Can't imagine a better way to Trumpet in the new season.

I had to have mine delivered in a trailer to the house last fall cuz it was bitter cold; and still it was a red letter day for me...LOL

(I'm betting you take the long way home)

Be well. Be safe. and to the best forum on the web.

Congratulations jsquared! I rode mine home about 30 miles before I knew anything about the "breakin" revs. I wouldn't worry about it. I just got thru test riding 4 bikes, and it leaves me wondering, why is the dealer not concerned about the proper break in for their bikes? We (all) test ride bikes like we stole them!

They’re not concerned because they end up selling them to us as a “floor model” with maybe a few dollars off...

When I ordered mine I told the dealer, “I don’t even want anyone to sit on it!”

I'll look for you on the roads! I live in Hampstead and commute daily on my red 08 Versys to Hunt Valley. Where are you buying your V?

Breaking it in

I just posted this to another thread

There are many schools of thought on breaking it in.

Here is very different thought.

Make sure you follow it EXACTLY if you decide to go down that path

I have never tried it as I bought second hand

Good luck and have fun

Although I have had Miss Jaffa (Burnt Orange 2007 Versys) for a while, I still have a lot to learn.

Hey Tebbert,

I'm getting it from Manassas Honda. They seem to be a pretty good bunch down there. I will be commuting to College Park with it. It's the blue '09 model.

To everyone else, this isn't my first bike. I used to ride a Katana. Sold it to buy the house, but no love lost for it. I dearly missed riding, but not in that position. I wanted something that would be a joy to ride, comfortable, and versatile. Seems like everything I've read has me going the right direction. It's been a while since I last rode, so I will definitely be taking it easy. Will post up pics of the new toy!!

The blue is good looking. I have an 08 red. Depending on what you are use to, the Versys can be a little top heavy at first. Be careful and enjoy, I believe mine is the most fun bike that I have owned.

I am lovin' it! First oil change today (100 miles). Took my daughter out on it, she had a great time. It's a really comfortable ride. Very confidence inspiring.

As they say, `Beauty is in the eye of the beholder', but IMO anybody who would call that bike ugly needs to have their eyes examined! It’s think she’s gorgeous!!

Enjoy... and best of luck with her!

North Toronto area...I'm with you on the break in by the way. My GS400 was always great in its powerbands even from day 1. I say GIVER. OSCAR HAD IT RIGHT TOO EH! I do a homebrew of NOVASCOTIA ALE...IT'S A BIT BITTER...BUT IT'S TOPS! Try out your local wine/beer makers and buy a kegerator. 7 cases in a 59l. keg for about a c-note
