Hello from the UK

Hello, not quite a Versys owner but an ER6 so don't give me too much grief

I race an ER6 and like to build/tune engines for fun, I've mainly worked on TL1000 engines and raced one for 10 years winning two championships.

I've recently been bitten by the 650 bug and love racing/trackday'ing the little pizza bike.

However I do get my arse kicked down the straights a bit and there's only so much I can make up on the brakes and corner speed......so a spare engine was bought to play with

I've not found much help or knowledge on engine work and after contacting Shane on his slingshot site he pointed me here.

The current engine I'm building will be running 13.5:1 Pistons, Reprofiled Cams, +4mm bored throttle bodies aswell as the usual bolt on stuff

I've changed a few things on my bike at present such as GSXR Radial Forks, 5.5" SRAD Rear wheel for better/cheaper race rubber choice, TL1000 front wheel and yokes.

I have also bought a Versy's swingarm which is yet to fit but will happen this winter.

Here's a quick couple of pics

Welcome aboard! Sweet looking ride!!!

As far as performance upgrades go, you could probably teach most of us a thing or two...

Oh no, the riff raff has come in on an Er6!!

Looks like I'm outclassed next month at Cadwell then Sam? I'm doing zero mods - in fact, leaving the top box ON!

actually, bought some ali plate to try to raise the footrests as seems lean angle is my only weapon left!

Welcome Sam. (lock up your wallets everybody)

Cheers Guys

I doubt any mods will be done for Cadwell Tony, more of a winter plan.

I've got 2.5 spare engines to play with

I've bored out a set of Throttle Bodies (+4mm) and started playing with a cylinder head. I can't believe how narrow the valve seat throats are in relation to the valve size, deffinately aimed at torque and not intended for high bhp !

I have the cams and pistons ready and ordered the stainless to make new exhaust headers, lots of the parts but not enough time as usual

V2Sam:
I can't wait to read more about your modification to this little mill. Should be interesting reading. As Bear said, we can learn something from you. Most of us will never be that deep into this engine so could you post some photo's of the inner workings and what mods you are preforming on them? Thanks in advance and welcome to the board.

Looks Like Bait!

I smell cutting oil and can see HP on the horizon.
I wonder if anyone has a picture of the stock Ninja head/valve train to compare
this to? Not that it really matters, I'm just curious as to how much the difference would be.
V2Sam you may want to start a new thread for this and get it out of member intro's. Performance Modifications maybe?
Anyway I am hooked and waiting for the next installment.
Thanks Again, I'm in.

Thanks Steve

I have more pics but literally only cut the throats yesterday and started the porting last night, once I get nearer to some conclusion pics I'll do a thread.

I've done a thread on the bored throttle bodies

Here's the stock pics but ports are notoriously hard to photo
