Smile New "Versys" builder

Hi everybody. I'm new to this forum, but I'm in the middle of a build project to create a Versys of sorts. My bike started life as a 2009 Ninja 650r. It had been wrecked and suffered heavy cosmetic damage, but mechanically is in pretty good shape. I'm adding long travel suspension, spoked wheels, and several Versys parts to hopefully end up with something that looks like a lighter, faster, minimized Versys.

Also just wanted to say thanks for all the good info I've picked up from the forum so far.

Thanks! The jdrocks build was one of my original sources of inspiration. Several others have done builds similar to mine so I'm definitely not breaking new ground. Hopefully mine will turn out as nice as some of the others and maybe I can add a new idea or two.

Sounds like a good project. Good luck with it! I am tempted by the idea but have gone in the opposite direction to make my versys more of a utility bike (hard bags and all that).

Due some problems getting his pics on this forum, Dave's now posting it just on ADVrider:

So, besides being lighter than a stock Versys, what are you going to do to make it faster?

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Ed, thanks for the link. I've been following Dave's build on ADVrider, as well as a few others.

Twowheeladdict, I plan on using this bike off the pavement quite a bit so when I say faster I'm not super concerned about top speed. I'm thinking faster in terms of lighter weight and better suspension allowing me to go faster over the rough stuff. However, the stock Ninja motor already has a little more power than the stock Versys motor and I might explore some options to add more power. I just don't want to sacrifice reliability and longevity.

Don't forget - the "flat-trackers" are getting around 90HP....

Might NOT last TOO long at that output...! Be FUN while it did!
