my first post

hello everyone

i am new to the versys but not to riding. My last 2 bikes was the Honda CBR250r and the a Ninja 650.

due to health reasons i went to the Ninja (plus i wanted more freeway power)
i needed a more upright ergo and the Ninja was about perfect but...

after just 6 months (got Ninja new in May 2013) i found it a bit uncomfy with the upright ergo combined with the sportbike knee bend.

i would have got a 2013 Versys instead but it did not have abs. Fast forward to October 2013

i saw the 2014 Versys did have abs as an option. And my dealer gave me a really crazy trade in price. so i did the trade.

got the Versys delivered on Nov22 2013. i had them install a Givi 33L top case and crashbars.

the only bad thing now is winter happened. i have not had a chance to ride the bike at all. Except for about the 100ft from outside thru parking garage to parking space.

so now i wait for warmer weather to give the bike a proper shakedown ride
will see how it goes but strongly considering new tires when i do first service.

yes i agree stock tires are usually not all that great. Is why i am considering new ones. Tho i did not find the stock tires on both the CBR and Ninja all that bad. (for normal sane street riding) But i did try a track day on the CBR and there i found the stock tires not up to that kind of riding.

I had a set of Michelin PR3 installed on the CBR and liked them. The usual rule of new tires slippery did not seem to apply with them. They are good to go right out of the gate.

I had thought of getting the Metzler M8 but read lots of scary things about how slippy they are when new.

I used-up ALL the OEM rubber before changing, my 2008 here in AZ (rear after 10,008 miles, front after 11,545 miles), the 2009 in BC.

I also know a fellow who bought a new Ninja 650 (here in AZ), and crashed it on the ride home from the dealer when he cornered aggressively instead of "breaking-in" the new rubber.

Welcome, I also used up all the stock rubber then went through various tyres but the last couple of changes have been with BT 023s which I run on both my bikes.
