Another new Versys owner!

I'm the proud owner of a new to me 2009 Versys and rode it home today with a huge smile on my face the whole way. First bike owned. First week after MSF class. First time above 40 mph on a bike. I'm sure I will use this forum in the months ahead to learn all sorts of things and so wanted to say hello.

I'm a sailor and DIY mechanic on cars and boats but am new to motorized bikes. Much to learn.

Have already used this thread to find out which oil filters fit and which oil types are valid. And I have already had to remove and loctite the left side mirror assembly because on my ride home that mirror twisted uselessly toward me when I hit about 45 MPH. I had to ride a good while with no mirror on that side.

Anyway, hello everyone.

Hey thanks. Someday we may be the ones giving our two cents on this site. For now, speaking for myself, I am going to be on the receiving side of the generosity.

Thanks for the welcoming everybody. I'm about to launch into a full fluid change and chain cleaning just to start fresh and reset the maintenance schedule. New toy love.

Have now passed 100 miles riding around the vicinity and practicing figure 8's like they are a form of meditation. Man, am I loving it. I haven't gone on longer rides yet as my work schedule has precluded. Plus, I am happy to practice many of the slow speed things as they are tougher anyway.

I've changed the oil, using Mobil 1 4T, oil filter, cleaned the chain with WD40 thoroughly and applied Honda chainlube. Last night I bled the brakes even though the fluid wasn't too dark. Debating whether to go ahead and change the plugs though folks on this forum seem to advise against doing so at the recommended interval.

Putting in the time on the bike doing every maneuver I can think of as I am a firm believer in the 10,000 hour idea.

Think my Versys is among the nicest bikes I see around!

I'm NOT sure what you mean by... "the 10,000 hour idea"...?

I think 10,000 hours is the muscle memory figure where someone essentially becomes an expert?
