Hello from Arizona!

Howdy folks!

Passed my MSF course a week ago, and just took delivery of a 2011 Versys. A little bit nervous about riding the bike, as it is bigger than the Suzuki TU250 I rode in the BRC. Plan to start slowly, get a feel for the bike around my apartment complex before taking it out on the street.

Wish me luck!

Suggestions for gear

I'm a firm believer of having the right gear. I've already gotten a full face helmet (HJC with DOT/Snell certification), a pair of Cortex DX gloves and V2X riding boots. Also invested in a kevlar reinforced pair of jeans (Sliders). I have a regular leather jacket but need to get a proper riding jacket. Been surfing the net, checking out stuff at Revzilla.com but still haven't found one I liked. I might pick on up at a walk-in store.

Anyone from Chandler or Phoenix who can suggest good places to get gear?

Appreciate any suggestion!

QH

Got over my initial jitters and rode my bike for about 20mins. No big deal, just around the apartment compund. Bike handles quite well. I can get used to her .
Maybe a couple more laps later today and I might take it out on the street tomorrow

I know, it may sound frustratingly slow. I just want to take a step at a time.

Agree with weljo can not beat some of those deals!

But you live near big population so maybe there are some deals.

Not in my area! Only online deals.

Also watch slow speed sharp turns. Going really slow bike hits a little rock and stops tire and bike rotates over the top for a strange drop!

Best of luck!

Darn it. I knew it was going to happen sooner or later.

I dropped my bike

I had a good ride in the streets and got home safely. As I approached my garage (apartment complex), I made the mistake of angling my bike parallel to the garage door where the path leading up to it had a bit of an incline. I stopped, underestimated the weight as it leaned over to the left, couldn't recover and bam. Minor scuff marks on the fairing but the clutch lever tip (rounded end) broke off. She's still driveable, I think, but... I dunno. I think I'll need to replace it lever before going out again.

Tried lifting it, couldn't. I need to go back to the youtube tutorials on how to do this! A lady drove by, just looked at me, and drove off. A minute later, a guy in a pickup with his little daughter, stopped next to me and helped upright the bike. He tells me this stuff happens and it happened to him once. Really appreciated his help and his words.

Oh well, could have been worse. I am thankful
