Hello from north of Seattle
Greetings all; here is a brief intro to my experience with motorbikes. Unlike many of you my first exposure to riding was with a 1991 Honda 750 Nighthawk when I was 60. A couple of years later I sold the Honda and picked up a 2005 Suzuki V-Strom DL1000. I’ve enjoyed riding it in New Mexico and done a number of multi-day trips throughout the southwest, including an 8 day run through southern Utah and Colorado.
Several years ago I moved to the PNW and now mostly do day rides on the wonderful twisty 2 lane roads in this part of Washington state. I was looking for a smaller, more agile bike to see out my relatively short riding career, and thought the Versys might work out well for me. Since I’m 6’2”, and used to a more roomy cockpit with the V-Strom, I may add foot peg lowering blocks. Although I can flatfoot the bike with the standard seat I might consider the lowering kit as well. My balance is not what it was when I was younger, and a lighter bike and a lower CG may allow me to ride safely for an additional number of years. I’m hoping to retire in a year or so and spend some time exploring the Olympic Peninsula and the great roads on Vancouver Island and along the Sunshine Coast up in BC.
I don’t have a Versys yet (as of the beginning of October), but have leads on several in the southern part of the state in my price range. I’ve learned a lot so far from the generous members of this forum and am sure I will enjoy being a member of the community.
