G'Day!

Hi,

Just registered here so thought I would say hi! I am based in Sydney, Australia and have been riding for about 14 months now.

My current ride is a KLE500 which is great but as I come off a restricted license in July I am considering a slight upgrade to get something a little more modern. The KLE500 is a good bike but no Fuel Inj., no fuel gauge (or light), small tank and semi off road tyres are annoying me.

So, I have a shortlist of 3 bikes which I need to test ride, on paper the Versys is the best option but I will also take a look at the Honda XLV700 Transalp and the Yamaha TDM900.

The Versys has not been a big seller here in Aus, mainly I think because Kawasaki Australia made the strange decision to only import them in Lime Green! Definitely not a colour to everyones taste and is in fact making me think twice. I would much prefer it in black. But everything else about it fits all my requirements perfectly.

So I will be here reading about your experiences with the Versys and maybe after I have had a test ride I might be asking some questions too.

Any other Aussies hanging out here?

Adam

Welcome! I know there are a few of your mates on here. We don't get black or gray in the states either. Canada gets them.

Steve

I bought a motorcycle because my wife said that I couldn't! Now I have two and she still says I can't have another one!

Welcome Mate ...i think you may find another reason they haven't sold many is because it has slightly more power than required (3 or 4hp) to let it slip under the LAMS laws.
( 'Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme', In NSW you can ride a bike up to a particular power limit with your provisional license).
and Kawasaki in their wisdom (debatable) didn't want to bother messing with it. I know Ducati did and sold a bucket load of their monsters.
although i have to agree that the Green is a little ...interesting.

I live in Sydney too, and do the Daily Commute from Carlton to the City, and absolutely love the bike. (being a little higher its great to see over the cages).
it has a few niggling issues that the guys here on the forums have assisted me with, in regards to the seat comfort, and the some minor fairing buzzing,
however for the price and its Versatility i think you would be hard pressed to find a better beastie (even if it is candy apple metallic green)

g'day g'day
Definitely need to go for a spin on one...damn good fun to ride
I was looking at the Triumph scrambler and BMW 650's....though kept coming back for a look at the weird looking Versys...
The looks grew on me, especially after a test ride..great punchy usable power...
Looks like a great deal on 1 on fleabay in NSW @ the moment...

love that it's so versatile !! fancy that...
And now I really dig the green, debadging made a huge difference..

good luck, so much info out there....2 much!

Thanks for the welcomes!

The Versys is the replacement model to my KLE500 so I don't expect it to feel too different, on paper it is a little more powerful but not exceptionally.

Here are a couple of pics of my current bike, I don't think you ever got the KLE in the US so this may be something new.

fancy seat cover

Adam,
We dont get the KLE500 in the states or the fancy seat cover.

You won't go wrong with the Versys.

Take a spin on one and you'll be sold.

Welcome to the Forum.
