Midwest Lurker

Hello All! I have lurked here for some time now whilst I struggled with making up my mind about which motorcycle to buy for an Alaska trip in 2014 - a Versys or a Wee Strom. Obviously, I have made my decision.

My new to me Versys is a Blue 09' already kitted out with Happy Trails panniers, skidplate and crash bars. It also has the MRA aftermarket windscreen and barkbuster handguards. I have few more farkles to add but overall, I am very pleased with my purchase! Pics to follow soon.

What was it about the Versys that made up your mind for you?

For one, it was the ride. The bike just felt more nimble and easier to ride. Then it came down to availability and bang for my buck. Any Wee strom that I could find was going to need more done to it than this Versys, and all the Stroms seemed to have in the neighborhood of 25K miles. The versys I picked up has just under 4200 miles, fairly farkled already was only $5K and...it's Blue!

The idea of taking the same bike to Alaska as my riding partner (he is riding a V Strom) appealed to me - and quite frankly is still nagging at me a bit. We could share parts, tools etc. which could lighten our load a bit. Fuel stops could be calculated a bit easier as the mileage would be nearly the same. There are just a lot of reasons to have 2 bikes of the same make riding together. But even though we are riding together and sharing the experience, I still feel the need to make the ride MINE!

So thats the short answer...lol
