Hello From Northern VA

I just bought a 2009 Versys in classic Kawasaki Green. I'm a shorter fellow so the height is an issue for me. I've already purchased a MotoWerks Standard Lowering Kit. My concern is, once I install this kit, will it effect the angle in which my bike leans when on the kickstand? Logically, it should. I use the left peg to mount and dismount the bike. The current lean gives me a bit of comfort. If the bike is more upright, its a higher probability I'll tip over as I'm hopping on.

MotorWerks offers a "Flatfoot for Lowering Kit" and a "Standard Flatfoot". They are enlarged bases to kickstands that provide a more stable platform. I haven't modded the kick stand at all so I'm not even sure which I'd need to purchase at this point. One guy mentioned he took a hack saw to his kick stand to mod it but he doesn't recommend it.

Any advice on the multiple questions I've asked is helpful. Motorwerks website has a limited number of customer reviews though they are mainly very positive.

Welcome Fellow Virginian!!

Cut the stand and install the flatfoot. The lean will be off.

Here are some photos:

BTW, it is not as close to the chain as it appears in this photo.

Don't forget to check your chain slack afterwards. Mine was really tight.

Most lower the front as well.

Take her to this line on the forks:

There are instructions on Speedy's site as well as tons here on how to safely lower the front without dropping your bike on the fender.

Perfect Reply

Thanks for the reply and the pictures. I figure I'll bang out all these mods at once. First, I'm going to buy the flatfoot for lowering kit. Then I'll install the standard lowering kit, shorten the kick stand, install the flatfoot, and drop the forks a bit to maintain the geometry. Then I should be smooth sailing. It appears that you can't do one of these mods alone or it's kind of useless. All need to be done. I'll try lowering the front just a little bit. As long as I can get my feet on the ground I'm happy. I'll keep you posted.
