New guy from Minnesota

Hey everyone,

My name is Nick, I live in Minnesota. I totaled my v star 650 t-boning a car that was running a red light last summer. I only had it for a month and now just able to get back on a bike.

Been on here for awhile as a guest but just pulled the trigger on a 2011 versys! I'm picking her up this Saturday from the dealer. Its brand new zero miles! This forum has been great, I like to see known issues or problems before I buy anything. I was looking at a KLR650 but decided my bike will be 95% on road and some light gravel roads if needed.

I'm getting the bike for $6399 and $7300 OTD. Taxes alone were $500 and $200-300 prep fees. I see it as I'm getting $1600 off a 2013 I would of been buying lol Since I'm not trying to fuss with the price would it be wrong of me to push for a free helmet or gloves?

I'm 23 and my insurance with a $500 deductible, no medical, and on a loan is $950/yr or $80/mo thought I would throw that out there.

Here's the beauty at the dealer and my old bike!

Welcome to the forum. Glad to hear you are recovering from you previous incident.

Mitch

P.S. I hope that shoe in the helmet photo wasn't what you were wearing when you crashed.

Any street bike i've bought i've always had them throw in a helmet. If they hestitated i let them know it was a deal breaker even more so if your not making them work for the deal by not negotiating the price. The last dealer i bought from threw in a HJC full face helmet and gave me the option if i wanted a more expensive helmet they would deduct what the price of the HJC from the one i chose. I took the HJC and gave it to my brother because i had already purchased a new helmet. But i've been in sales for years and i make them work the deal once i feel the deal is fair to both partys i'm happy.

Welcome and glad you're able to get back on a bike! That helmet picture is a good advertisement for full face helmets. You would probably be missing a chin without it.

Rode the bike home from the dealer in Fridley, MN to my home in Blaine, MN at 7pm last night and damn was it a cold 8miles! I went around the parking lot a few time then headed up HWY 65 and by god this V is a beast compared to my vstar 650 I mean WOW!! My back tire slipped out on my first takeoff onto HWY 65, cold new tires didn't help a new rider to his first "sportbike" but after that I kept it under 6k rpms to limit the slip. I love this bike and I'm really glad I found this forum to educate me on this bike before buying! I will be out this weekend doing a breakin up in Andover on back road if its nice and dry out with no salt! Pictures to come.
