Chicagoland old timer
I figured I'd never get off BSAs right up until- oops- they crashed and burned.
In June, 1977, I finally slinked into Illinois Kawasaki (long departed) in Des Plaines, Illinois and asked to see a KZ750 twin.
The sales manager, Doug Meyers, and yes, that Doug Meyers that was a part of Muzzy's for many, many years, told me to forget that thing and insisted I take a KZ650 Four for a test ride.
I'd never actually heard of a test ride before. It took some doing to get my bearings while they photocopied my license and then off I went. A half-hour later, I walked back in with my wallet in my hand and peeling out C-notes.
$1765.00 out the door. That was different money.
80,000 miles and NO repairs later, I sold it for a KZ1000J. Then a Concours 1000. Then a GPZ1100E... that one went 106K with, again, NO repairs ever. Lotsa tires and oil, though.
Nowadays the ZRX has a 2018 Versys 650LT for company, the Missus' fourth bike in her short career as a new-ish rider. Her everyday one though has gotten to be an SV650S and the V650 goes for "touring".
The Wings are in the past and an FJR holds down the big-touring-bike role for me.
But that Versys intrigues this old guy...
