Merhaba from Texas, USA. I was assigned to Incirlik Air Base near Adana many years ago. Turkiye is a beautiful country in my opinion.

Arion - glad to see that you're still hanging around, even if you've gone over to the dark side....

I flew a C-130 into Turkey back in my RCAF time (probably '69 or '70), but can't remember the name of the airbase.

Give me a pass on some of the spelling but it might have been Izmir, Samsun, Trabson, Diyabirkir, Yeshelkoy, or Incirlik. There are more sites that USAF C-130s once used to resupply, but they're lost in my fading memory. If my father was still alive I'd ask him for help - he flew resupply sorties throughout Turkey years before I was assigned there.

Interesting times while I was there as it was when the Turks and Greeks went to war over Cyprus (again). All US aircraft were evacuated and those of us remaining watched quietly, and with a great deal of fascination, while the Turkish Air Force flew RF-84, F-100, and F-4 sorties out of Incirlik. Did you know that when an F-100 nose wheel collapses on landing it becomes a really large shovel?

STILL can't remember the name (NONE of the ones you mentioned), but they had some ex-RCAF F-86 Sabres (Mk 6) on base, and I was carrying a "load" of CF-104 pilots and techs for an 'exercise'.

We had filed our flight-plan as GAT* (general air traffic) which means they can't close to closer than a couple of miles if they do an 'intercept', but we had a RHAF F-5 intercept and pass w/in about 50' near Athens. Scared the crap out of me as he flew under the cockpit, left to right!

*GAT as opposed to OAT - operational air traffic - which allows intercepts, etc.
