X300 New Member--Hello. Just joined.

I just bought a 2018 red Versys x 300. Love the look, hate the highway rpms. Looking for answers.

X300 / Changing Front Sprocket

On a recent PM this is what was discussed; I come from cruisers. I am 70. I love the bike off road at low rpms, but at 60 mph it revs 7000 rpms. Can't take it. I am wanting to go to a 16 front 38 rear sprockets to bring the revs down to 5000 at 60 mph. Anyone done this? Any opinions from your experiences?
Yes lots of those doing it, be aware you will have problems if you go too drastic . I have been riding DRZ400S for 4 years then in 2007 got my first Versys 650, running in 6500 to 7500 RPM all day ( over 4 hours at a time), those motors are designed to run in that range. I will add a link https://www.kawasakiversys.com/forum...ult-light.html

2nd post

Anyone slapped 16 drive and a 38 wheel sprocket on a Versys x 300? I figure I would drop the rpms from 7000 to 5000 at 60 mph. Would it be bad because of low torque? How would you imagine it behave.

Do some read on the Forum on changing to much, the best you can do without any issues is a 16 on the front and learn to love the the high RPMs

I really wouldn't mind of high rpm on versys-x 300, those engines are made for such rpm range, consider this is the ninja engine, ant top rpm before red mark is about 11.5k, wich means 4.5k rpm until that. Consider this when you're driving a car or other bikes, at cruising speed you're like 3.5k rpm from red mark...

Doing those kind of mod over transmision relation, this just only change the specifications of performance, it will increase lug and force to your engine, like riding up hill.

Just enjoy it, i bet this engine could give over 100k miles life time before doing complete maintenance.

Regards.
