New Here...thinking about getting a 300

I'm back and forth between a 300 and 650. Cost is one factor. Another is that even though I am not a beginner rider I have not ridden in several years. I owned a ninja250 and the carburetor maintenance turned me off. Namely I didn't ride it enough over the winter and I am afraid of mechanical work. I'd love to learn how to change oil and stuff like that but I am afraid of turning a 50 dollar maintenance item into a 2000 dollar catastrophe.

There are a couple 300s for sale near me. Two are brand new but don't have the ABS and are in a less desirable color for me. There are a couple 300s used as well that don't have a ton of miles on them.

I'm interested in 5ft 11in folks solutions for windshields. My ninja made my head bobble around so I put a massive windshield on and that stopped it.

Anyway. New rider from Pasadena MD saying hi....and rambling.

Eyy, hello, Welcome, and welcome me too, im a Rookie here too.
i can say this, i had 250, i felt its completely Fine. 30hp V2 engine. Riding in high gear, no choice on highways.
if you City ride, 300 is Perfect!

if you more adventure and if High speeds above 100kmh, then id say 650 is more suited for that.

300, Super fun, maximum throttle all the time possible. 650, well thats a big bike...With big bike,Comes Big responsobility bla bla bla.
Try both, and see what you will like!

Totally Fine to get the 300! if we talkin about power and fun.

Cheers!

I'm someone who waffled between a 300 and a 650. Actually was bout to buy a used 300, but the seller had title issues. Ended up buying a 650 that we more used, but much better equipped. I will say that everytime I venture off pavement with the 650 I wish it was a 300 - less weight, more nimble. Weight, particularly as high as the Versys carries it, is not a good thing off road. Might look at the new KTM 790 with it's saddlebag fuel tanks someday...

I would also guess that the 300 would be a better big city commuter for the same reasons...lighter, more nimble, basically un-stallable in 1st gear... For everything in-between, meaning suburban/rural on-pavement or highway riding, the 650 is better.

I'm 6 foot, 170, and pretty old/weak, so the size/weight issue looms large for me. There will be a day in the future where I just won't be able to handle the 650, at least not on gravel/sand.
