In London a Chieftan tank would be good for beginners! Seriously, it's difficult to say not knowing much about you and what manner of riding or commuting you plan to do. It's been years since I've driven in London but it wasn't a good environment for a beginning rider in my opinion many years ago. Cannot say what it's like now though I suspect it's worse not better.
If you are new to bike , better to start with a light and lower range bike(250CC bikes). The versys is quite tall and heavy. But if you want to use the versys, then you really need to have the time and space to get used to the bike and city street is not the place.
Weigh you option seriously and make your call. Be safe-:goodluck:
