Found this website & I'm really impressed with all the information regarding Versys bikes.
I have recently purchased a 2018 650 Versys & I'm really enjoying it.
I've previosuly had 650 & 1000 Vstrom's but decided to make a switch to a lighter, slightly smaller bike as I'm getting long in tooth now (73 years old).
Welcome! Be sure to download a copy of the service manual for the 2015+ model.
Also install spools on rear swing arm and pick up a rear spool lift stand for performing bike maintenance tasks like oil changes, cleaning, chain maintenance etc.
Hello Twowheels, thank you for your response to my initial message. I'm curious about the swing arm spool options & rear wheel lift. I've been thinking of installing a center stand but this spool lift seems to be an easier & cheaper option to allow chain oiling etc.
Just wondered if you had infomration on a particular model, I did see spools & lifts from R&G on the Twisted Throttle site but I'm not sure if these would work for the 2018 650Versys. Thank you, best regards
Welcome pvversys! I'm relatively knew to this forum and feel like I don't fit the age group and riding experience myself. I'm 30, this is only my second bike and ive only clocked about 17,000 miles between the two bikes. Age and experience doesnt change that I love riding everyday that I can.
I don't have the option/mounting point for the spools on my 19 V1k, but I did have them on my Ninja 300. I used a pair I found at my local Cyclegear, I don't recall the brand. Just had to get the right bolt size for the bike. I had a universal rear stand with pads/blocks and the hook for lifing via spools. The head just had to be turned 180 degrees and then adjusted for the width of the swing arm. Made chain/tire maintenance much quicker. With that said, having the center stand on the V1k, I much prefer it to the rear stand for routine maintenance. Its always with the bike, making roadside repairs/maintenance on the rear tire effortless. I dont think you can go wrong with either option, but if price is the deciding factor, rear stand will do just fine.
