Shift pedal sticking - 2011 Versys 650

Hey guys,

Shift pedal sticks in the down position and I have to pick it back up with my toe. Doesn't happen on every shift, and seems to be worse when down shifting from 3rd-2nd or from 2nd-1st.

First time it happened i cleaned it and greased it and all was good for a few months, but now the problem is coming back more frequently.

Do i just need to clean it religiously? Or could the return spring be about to crap out?

99% riding on pavement. Gravel driveway and occasional gravel road. Not like I'm slamming mud and water in there.

Anyone have similar problems?

Thanks

I've had a similar problem but cleaning and greasing solved it. I now periodically apply lubricant under the rubber covers near each end of the shift rod and it seems to work fine. Periodically being about as often as regular service intervals.
I'd say inspect the rubber covers - if they're not sealing correctly, dirt will get there fast even if you ride on pavement. Other than that, no ideas.

My 2013 will do it sometimes. More when I am trying to do multiple down shifts at a time. It helps a little if you do a solid shift not just a slow push down and also go one at a time with the clutch let out between shifts.

I have also lubed the linkage after reading about the problem here some time ago.

There was a thread about that on here somewhere. Happened to me at about 25,000 miles. I removed the entire assembly, cleaned and lubed it before putting it back together and all was good.
