Considering an X 300

Hi Everyone.....

I'm considering buying an X 300 and was hoping to hear from you learned folk, what they like to live with ?

What are the pro's and cons ?

Ive read the gearing needs changing for day to day road use / light off road - what have you guys done ??

What other mods / changes would you recommend ?

It's been a good go-to bike for me for commuting. It does have some power but it's not going to blow to away but it will be fun and manageable for most people. It looks good and gets good mileage.

I immediately put on T-Rex crash bars and a T-Rex exhaust slider. Upgrade the crappy headlights and I'd get a set of fog lights for it, too.

Get a Bike Master 12v power socket and the Kawasaki relay for it.

Part # 27002-1086* for the relay for the 12v socket.

Given my experiences, these types of decisions are best done on the fly and when you're out riding then you can decide if you regret your purchase or not.

Just live with first gear the way it is by using second from 0 instead.

i test rode one today and the low gearing was not perfect...

i test rode one today....

and as they had a CB300R too - test rode that "back to back" ....

The conclusion i came to was that for me, the 300R is a much better bike - more fun to ride and more nimble than the Versys...

So deposit paid on the 300F and my last post here !

Awesome bike for commuting, nice and nimble so you can throw it around. Can easily take into gravel and on a beach with the stock tires but more knobbly tires would be better if doing anything more serious / extended periods of time.

Agreed with starting in second first gear is very short, however this is nice when using off road.

First dual purpose bike with 10,000kms on the clock and no regrets or desires to change so far.

There was some gravel, well there is gravel and tar debris on a few streets around here because they're doing construction on a lot of Bronx streets so I use 1st gear in those situations. I still like the bike. I would like to have that 650 Versys but idk if I could touch the floor with my boots.

Seriously? When I test rode it there wasn't enough grunt off the line. I would change the gearing for more get up and go and less top speed based on the way I was planning on using it.

Yeah but it seems pretty complicated and you're limited to only a certain amount of teeth before the ECU acts up. If only they made a piggy back ECU like they do for the KTM Duke 390 and you could make ECU adjustments. That's what I do. 2nd as if it's 1st. In the future I'm probably going to sell the 300 for a 650 Versys anyway but maybe I should reconsider changing the sprocket.
