Hello from Norcal

Hello everyone, I am Matt, expat from Italy to norcal!

Got registered a while back but never actually presented myself!
I am a software architect (norcal and software, weird!) and I own a 2015 Versys 650 that I am modifying to my liking

Would like to find someone else in the area!

Welcome from the east bay! I commute most dry days down 680 from WC to Pleasanton and have seen a few (but not enough) green machines. Where in norcal are you?

I am up near Sac, but I came down to the bay twice a month, one of our offices is in Sunnyvale, I was actually planning to go up Mt Diablo once the weather gets better

Mt. Diablo is definitely a fun ride - lots of hairpin turns, and of course great views from the top. I live 2 miles from the northgate entrance and it's where I learned to ride last summer. Took my KLX250 up most days after work. There's a $10 entrance fee but when I would go after 6pm or so there'd be no one at the gate to collect (M - W).

Since then I've added a 2015 V 650 LT to my motor pool, and I take it up Diablo sometimes but I have to say it was more fun on the 250. You can really lean into those corners with a light bike.

Welcome. I'm in the City.

A Mt. Diablo ride sounds fun. I'm also interested in a ride up that way towards the Sierra foothills. There must be some good roads there.

Many great roads in the Sierra. Most of HWY 49, HWY 20, Carson Pass, Sonora Pass, Ebbets Pass just to name a few.

I lived in Vacaville for a while. Then moved down to Highland (near San Bernadino)

I try to be the kind of person my dogs think I am

You're kind of in the middle of a bunch of us, some in the Bay Area, some in the Sacramento area, some in the Central Valley. To the west, the ocean and HWY 1 and 101 and the Redwoods. To the east, the Sierra foothills, Gold Country, Lake Tahoe. Yosemite is between Sac and Central Valley folks, I'd love to meetup there someday.

Hm. I have to say I'm confused as to what you are calling the Central Valley. Sac is actually in the Central Valley, so Yosemite is not between Sac and the Central Valley. Yosemite is between Sac and the Sierra Valley though.

I guess I should have said Central California instead of Central Valley. So to clear up any confusion

Wikipedia:

Central California is considered to be west of the crest of the Sierra Nevada. (East of the Sierras is Eastern California.) The largest cities (over 50,000 population) in the region are Fresno, Modesto, Salinas, Visalia, Clovis, Merced, Turlock, Madera, Tulare, Porterville, and Hanford.

The Great Central Valley is actually two large valleys lying end to end, each drained by a major river. The Sacramento Valley is drained by the Sacramento River and the San Joaquin Valley is drained by the San Joaquin River. The confluence of these two rivers occurs east of San Francisco Bay.
