Sorry this isn't related to your question, but I finally noticed you're a resident of Kitchener, Ontario. My maternal grandfather emigrated from Kitchener to central Maine in 1887. Talk about moving way south!

the southmost area in brownsville would be most extreme, where the audubon refuge is. PI is pretty extreme as well. I'm in harlingen. everything below the sarita checkpoint i'd call the republic of the rio grande. notice you're splitting time between SA and maine. Where in SA are you?

I agree about the Sarita checkpoint and the Republic of the Rio Grande. After five years in P.I. we moved back to S.A. from Port Isabel when my wife's father became ill and decided it was a good decision. We've both lived in S.A. on and off for many years, so it was like coming home again. I first moved to S.A. in 1954 when the town was not much more than a dusty wide spot in the road.

We're actually in Schertz, northeast of S.A. and about 8 miles from New Braunfels. Great riding area by the way - Hill Country and all that.

you're close to a lot of very good riding. i moved to SA in '77. it was like a big small town. but within a couple of years it was changing rapidly. wife and i moved away in '89. still go back to visit though. there are so many pretty farm roads around there, and most are unrecognized. the 3 sisters, etc, are just a drop in the bucket. hopefully we'll be moving back to the "usa" in the next year or two.

'Nother Texan here. I've been wanting to ride the Three Sisters for years. I love riding in the Hill Country though. Best riding I've done so far is around Maybe Falls.

the three sisters are nice, and well known, but there are innumerable other hill country farm roads, with tight curves, picturesque scenery, some with neat stops, that are not in ride guides. but careful, a lot of these roads are narrow, poorly maintained, with loose gravel, low water crossings, a lot of deer and other critters, poorly canted (road tilt on a curve), and wild bubbas and bubbettes in trucks taking the narrow curves like a bat out of hell !!!
