Smile Hi

Hi All

I'm planning on buying a V650 in the near future and wanted to get a head start with all the knowledge and experience that is here. This will be my first bike for a few years, I had a sabbatical while the kids grew up so I hope I still enjoy it as much as I used to. Kiwi (New Zealand) born, working in Australia and living in Thailand.

Welcome aboard from Texas, USA. Crikey, that's some commute to work you have. Must get pretty wet riding from Thailand to Australia.

Thumbs up Hi

Hi everyone

I am looking to get back into motorcycles after a very long absence and keep coming back to the Versys 650 as a good place to start. I was a motorcyclist from the time I started work and could afford to buy one until the cost of home ownership and the responsibilities of parenthood put an end to my passion. There was also the sneaking feeling that with all the lucky escapes I had that there was possibly going to be some dramatic karma equalisation looking to bite me. Now I am old (63) and don't care about the karma so much and I am looking to see if the passion will reignite.

I live in Thailand and work in Australia and I am hoping to work in Singapore for a few years in the near future so my big problem right now is deciding where and when to buy. I'm here to learn from others experience with the Versys 650.

Graeme

aboard.

PLEASE POST YOUR SECOND POST HERE IN THIS THREAD YOU STARTED. THANKS.

On the same , I live in Malaysia and if you are going to work in Singapore , better to buy the bike in Singapore and you can ride to Malaysia and Thailand. having a foreign bike in Singapore has its downside. On purchase cost wise the cheapest will be in Thailand, then Malaysia and Singapore been a bit pricey. You may want to consider a used unit and up grade latter.

The thing that gets me about buying in Singapore is that you need to buy a COE "Certificate of Entitlement" first which looks like it adds about $4000SGD to the price and makes it very expensive. Then if I decide to take the bike back to Thailand when I finish in Singapore the Thai import duty is 100% of whatever Thai customs decide the market value is, also not good. I think the next bit of research will be into if the COE cost changes for used bikes but I have a feeling it is the same for new or used.
