New 2012 Versys

I took delivery of a new 2012 Versys a couple of weeks ago
in Southern California. Purchased side bags with the bike, they
were on back order. Picked them up yesterday and put them on.
I think they really complete the bike well.

So far I'm pretty happy with the bike, however the seat MUST GO.
It was fine the first day riding home. After about a week on it
though, the constant nut crunch gets very old.

I am somewhat reluctant to cut up the foam as I've seen
others do in these forums as if I screw it up completely I'll
no longer be able to revert to stock. Does anybody know
if the driver's portion of the foam comes out cleanly in one
piece and would it be possible to completely rebuild the seat?
I like the idea of making my own low gel seat as I'm comfortable
with the height now, but add another inch to, say, raise the
front, and we might start having problems.

Welcome, sometimes a new seat takes a while to break in, coming up to just on 30,000km on my stock seat on my 08 with no issues at all, the versys stock seat is luxury compared with my ninja 1000 stock seat.

Hey, welcome to the club.. You really should post a pic or two of the new steed!
I've got a 2012 myself, and almost immediately purchased a "seat concepts" foam/cover kit

Most people seem to like it, but only if you're somewhat tall.
Here's my bumblebee-V
PS...did you get the colour matching bags?

I'll get a picture up next time I take it out to someplace
scenic so that I can get her into a nice fashion pose.

Yes, I got the matching Kawasaki branded Givi bags.
As part of the bike deal, the dealer gave me the Kawi
bags for less than Givi's would have cost me
online. Put them on myself. Would have been a
one hour job except for relocating the turn signals.
One of the screws on the rubber gromit was frozen.
Stripped the head and had to use an extractor to
get it out, then had to go to the hardware store to
get a replacement metric screw (cause we all have
a selection of those just sitting around our garages).

The seat concepts option looks promising although I'm
a little concerned about height. I'm 5'10" with a 32" inseam.
I'm fine at a one legged stop, but straddling the bike
I'm on my toes, which makes backing out of places a little
less than elegant.

Anyone have a seat concepts seat in Los Angeles (or thereabouts)
that wants to do a meetup? :-)

skatefriday,

If you have not already, consider a lowering kit for the V. Check out posts on this site for "speedy lowering kit". Not difficult to install and lowers the bike about 2 inches.

Good luck.
