Hello from Friendswood TX

This maybe a duplicate.
Hi All, I am a 70 year old retired Bio Medical engineer. I have been around bikes for most of my life. I even put myself through engineering school wrenching on bikes. I have been reading about the Versys and am convinced that I want one. I am going to look at a 2008 this weekend. Is there anything in particular that I should watch for?
I am looking forward to becoming a part of this group.

Randy

I've done a lot of research and have been a Yamaha loyal customer for many years. There is no such thing as a perfect motorcycle but the Versys gets pretty close to fulfilling most of my needs (if not all!). I'm joining the team too, let's see if how 'she' treats me :-)

Welcome from San Antonio and from another 70+ retiree. My Versys is a 2008 Generation One, as they've come to be known, and I've yet to have anything go wrong with it - knock on wood. It just runs and runs and runs and causes me to smile constantly.

As Jay_Chicago said, there is no such thing as a perfect motorcycle, but I agree the Versys comes pretty close. It isn't absolutely outstand at anything but it's very good at almost everything. It doesn't have the prettiest face but it isn't as homely looking as the Gen 2 model, and it doesn't have the "what bike is that" universal Japanese front end that the Gen 3 has. No offense meant to owners of those models, each of which is still an excellent Versys. It's a case of to each his own isn't it? Then again . . . .

Oh, and the Gen 1 comes in bright red - which is, despite what others may say, the fastest color.

Well, it looks like I am going to be a for sure member. I just bought a 2008. Now the questions begin.
The first one is regarding the turn signals. All four have the rubber rotted out,so they are just hanging in place. Is there an easy fix or do I have buy new ones?
Many more questions to follow when they let me post
Randy

BTW :I did get the fastest color

You will find that Kawasaki OEM turn signals are costly at about $50 for each of the four corners. That's what I found when I did a search for Versys 650 turn signals.

I'm confident that there are members of the forum who have replaced the stock turn signals with after market versions (that must be much less expensive yet still acceptable). I suggest you post an inquiry about replacing stock turn signals and see if it stirs up assistance. I can't imagine that it wouldn't result in help.
