Hey there, I've been lurking for awhile and I'm currently in the market for a versys! I'm cage free and need a commuter bigger than the 250. And the versys has the bonus of handling gravel well! I plan on doing track days, commuting in pouring rain and driving wind, and going camping with the same machine. Seems like a good community here.

With that broad a spectrum of requirements I think the Versys my be your only answer! It is a far better road/handling bike than any of the compatible adv. tour bikes on the market.

There are also a ton of aftermarket accessories to customize it to you needs. I would seriously consider SW-Motech engine bars and hand guards though if you are going to take it to the track or do much gravel riding - they make it damage resistant to drops and low sides. You will also require a cheap rear pit stand to elevate the rear wheel as there is no kick stand. Spools easily screw in the swing arm for this and provide some additional protection as well.

Besides cosmetics there is really no difference between 07-09 and 10+ models.
