It's great to have you with us, Crazyhorse!
I'm about 350 miles past the 500-mile-at-4000rpm point. It's always hard to contain the urge to just "let 'er rip!" However, it was fun to feel the engine loosening up and starting to purr.
When I got the first service, I switched to synthetic oil. For simplicity, I just went with the Kawasaki brand 4-stroke synthetic that my dealer always has available. Between the new oil and the new ceiling (until I hit 1,000 miles) of 6000 rpm, the bike is splendid to ride. Cruising at 75 mph is a breeze - and starting quickly off the line gives a really tantalizing taste of what it will be like when I can run it way on up in every gear!
I had a Vulcan 900 LT that I got when they first came out. It was a very comfortable - and surprisingly well-appointed - cruiser/tourer . . . but the engine was just too bland. I could never get very involved with the bike while riding it, so it went back to the dealer, after the riding season ended, in exchange for a KLR650 (and some assorted goodies). I rode the wheels off that thumper and it made me grin every time (and all the time) I used it. It's now at a new home in my son's garage - and the Versys has happily taken its place in my heart.
Here's hoping you enjoy cruising around the forum . . . and, most of all, that you continue to enjoy your Versys. Let us know about your bike and your rides!
