Hello from California

Hi,

I'm JeffR from California and I am new to this forum. I have ridden bikes for years and would like something a bit lighter and fun to ride. Just wanted to say Hi. I guess I have to be approved to be able to post some questions about the X300 in the general forum. But is anyone concerned about the tube tires? I really seem to like this bike sitting on it and I don't need a big engine anymore. Any concerns about the tubes?

Ride safe,

JeffR

Jeff - you can post questions in this thread - it's YOURS!

Years ago I 'converted' the rims on my KLR650 to tubeless. Took a week or two, what w/ letting the silicone 'cure' around each spoke, then installing the tire, checking for leaks at the spokes, removing the tire to re-silicone wherever it leaked and 'curing', till it held w/out leaks, then running another bead around the whole rim, 'curing' THAT, then re-installing the tires. Over a winter of it sitting in my garage in BC while I was here in AZ riding my Versys, the pressure was CLOSE to the same on my return.

IF I was to do it again I would check-out that "Gorilla Tape" instead of silicone.

Thanks for the welcome. I just came back from the dealer and will go back Wednesday to but the X300. Since I just joined today I'm not able to start a thread yet in the General discussion area yet. Hopefully it will be approved soon. I have ridden many bikes in the last 44 years and I want something lighter and I don't ride fast anymore so the 300 will be more than enough for me. I'm 6' tall and I was surprised how roomy it seems to be. I was thinking that since it is a 300cc bike that it would be small but it is a tall bike. So that should work great for me. But thanks for the welcome and I feel better now from the previous poster saying that the Africa Twin has tubes. I know tires are much, much better now than they were 20 years ago when I had my last bike that had tubes.

And thanks for the suggestion on how to put tubeless tires on but I think I will just keep it stock and one day get the heavier duty tubes.

Ride safe,

JeffR

I guess I need to post here until I am given permission to start threads in the 'x 300' general section. Has anyone used this seat yet?

seat-concepts.myshopify dot com for the x300

I have had to get different seats on a couple of bikes since I'm older and my back is not too good anymore. I don't want to spend the $400-500 for a Corbin, although it was great on my CTX700, and I also don't really go on long day rides as much anymore. I was just curious if anyone has tried it. It is about $30 cheaper than the Kaw high seat that is available for the X300. I know I haven't bought the bike yet but I'm sure I will need something different since others have commented on the hard seat.

I purchased the Kawasaki high seat (and also the Motowerks footpeg lowering blocks) for my X300. It made a roomy bike even more comfortable for my 5"11". Look here:
http://www.kawasakiversys.com/forums...high-seat.html

Perhaps one of the specialists could turn your seat into something even better but for me the improvement was outstanding.

I have not worried at all about the tubes. It is a result of Kawasaki's wish to use spoked rims. Perhaps tubeless would have been a better idea but it is what it is - probably the result of moans by off-road adventure riders who can rip a tire off the rim with their teeth and blow up the new tube with their lungs.

Have a look here for ideas. Kawasaki Versys-X 300 - Stromtrooper Forum : Suzuki V-Strom Motorcycle Forums

Best of luck with your new bike. Rev it! It needs to rev.
I'll start the running in discussion again by saying that the running in rpm limit is excessively understated and I ended up lugging the bike and so gave up. Allow the bike to rev using part throttle for a while. IMO that part of the manual is directly pasted from another much larger displacement bike.

And you should be able to post anywhere.

Brockie,

Thanks for the reply. I just found out that the seat I mentioned is just the kit and that I would have to redo the seat myself. I'm too lazy for that and I don't think it would look very good either. I feel much more comfortable with the responses from others about the tube tires as well. I'm really excited to get it. But I will be going from a CTX700 that is a very low rpm bike to a high rpm bike. But I think it will be fun to run through the gears. I had the DCT on the CTX and it was great to have that as well.

I thought I just had to make 2 posts but I also read something about having be a member for 48 hours as well (in order to post in the X300 area of this forum). When I do some mods I will take pics and as I do them.

Correct, about 4:13 today, allowing for scan time, this was put in place to fight spammers, works pretty good, at one time we had upwards of 1 a day, now about 1 every month to month and a half , as to posting photos, you can use the gallery, post in this thread then move them to a new thread later. The link below explains everything including how to post inline photos from the gallery, which by the way allows a total of 1000 photos per member , $$0.00 per photo you can also post jpg. photos in the same thread, much like http://www.kawasakiversys.com/forums...hose-dirt.html

onewizard,

Thanks. I thought I was reading it right but then again I thought I wasn't concerning the posts. I fully understand the spammer thing since I have my own site for the silverwing600 scooter (that I now longer have), and I'm also a mod for this same forum owner on the ctx700 site. The spammers can really wreak havoc at times. So hopefully now, or very soon, I can post in the X-300 part of the forum with separate topics. This is a good site though with great info. I have already decided on the kaw taller seat and the 15 tooth counter sprocket. Thanks again.

I am in Hesperia, California and will pick up my X300 in a few days. Its paid for. As far as tubes, I am not concerned. I plan to use heavy duty tubes and maybe run another tube as a liner for pinches off road. I would like to investigate tubeless for the future but I am not worried about tubes for now.

Scott - I converted KLR 650 wheels to tubeless - took about a week or so.
