Hello from MN

Just picked up my Versys. It's a bare bones '11 with 1500 miles on it. Got a great deal on it for that many miles. I am now very excited for spring. I started riding a few years ago and this is my first dive into owning a bike newer than 1983. I have always been in love with the idea of moto-camping and now have a bike I can trust to help me do it.

Welcome from San Antonio, TX. Can't imagine there will be much riding taking place in MN for a few months. Good time to add tons of accessories - all of which will be necessary and useful of course! It's a sickness many of seem to be infected with.

Thanks for the hospitality! Any advice of the best ways to acquire accessories? Farkle is fun and the bike I picked up was a steal but it doesn't even have a luggage rack, let alone any bags. What is the best wallet-friendly way to find stuff? Am I stuck digging through ebay? Does this forum have good parts swap pages? Thanks!

Welcome aboard from an ex Minnesnowtan. Mostly outstate though lived in Welch area for about 18 years. I know about that cold up there, have a brother that lives near Brrrrrmidji and another near Cotton north of Duluth.

You might wanna check out Adv Rider forum, there is a loooonnnnnggg thread on Versyseses under Beasts.

Do consider soft bags iff'n yer gonna play in the dirt. Hard bags Givi, Shad, or ??.

To save a few bucks you may want to check out ATV stuff that will work as the prices seem a bunch cheaper. Caveat, do not use grip heaters for ATV on a bike. You need motorcycle specific heaters as the left side will have more power for the metal handlebar and less for the throttle tube. Heat Demons work well for me. Iff'n you are gonna install new grips(I like these: https://www.murphskits.com/product_i...products_id=35 ), put them on at the same time as the heaters.

Have fun farkling.

Thanks for the info. I dont think ill be doing much offroad at all. Mainly just touring with some fire roads thrown in. And I don't think I'll look into heated grips until fall, currently mainly looking for luggage and maybe bike protection like frame sliders or crash bars. Any recommendations on sites? Haha.

Can't say I've seen a ton of swap posts but members quite often offer goodies for sale at fair prices. As far as new stuff goes, I shop with several online merchants - and look for sales regularly. It depends on what you're looking for. Some have better prices on specific items than others.

You might try: motorcyclegear.com, motorcyclesuperstore.com, revzilla.com or twistedthrottle.com. All are reputable, have decent prices, usually fast shipping, and good customer service - in my opinion at least. There are many others as well, but these are the ones I favor largely because of good buying experiences.

Good luck and have fun!
