New '12 owner

Greetings everyone from Jackson, WY. I just purchased a '12 V a couple of weeks ago and have been lurking around this forum quite a bit trying to figure out what you experienced V' owners are doing with your bikes. This place has provided a ton of great information for which I'm grateful. I just ordered the Givi E21 bags tonight with mounting gear based on what I read. This is my first bike and so far I've been nothing but happy with hit. Looking forward to putting many miles on it!

How about one new owner welcoming another one? This is a great forum.

Mine is all Black too! I really like both of the color schemes though. Curious how others came about choosing the Versys. For me, I had received some advice from a friend to go to a bunch of different shops and just sit on as many different models as possible, looking for a bike that just "fits". Afterwards, I started watching a bunch of videos on YouTube, including one that compared/contrasted it with the V-Strom and one of the BMWs models...that reviewer liked the V the best. After returning from a trip to Europe ( where touring-styled bikes rule) went and test drove it and drove away with it about 30 minutes later. I guess you could say I was sold.

I was looking to replace my Ulysses with another sporty-tourer-with-dirt-aspirations. I started out looking initially at the Yamaha Super Ten and Triumph Explorer. I'm part of a motorcycle podcast with an emphasis on touring (and giggling) and after a series of guests on the show including Austin Vince that kept emphasizing smaller versus larger bikes, I started looking smaller. The Triumph Tiger XC, the Wee-strom, and Versys were contenders. Sitting on the bikes narrowed it down for me to e Versys or XC. Test rides were really close for me, forgiving the Versys the cc disadvantage. It came down to cost and there not being a Versys in my riding circle.
