Hello. Help with buying.

Long time lurker...Learned so much so far from everyone here.

Just wanted to say hello. At the point where i can now get a versys!!

Hope to be contributing alot!

I can't seem to post anywhere but here...what's it take to post elsewhere?

Also do you think this would be a smart buy? I wanted to ask in the general category but have no access to it even after almost 1.5weeks.

2009 blue
10k
lowered pegs, 16 tooth front, cee bailey screen.
4500.00

that's about all. Would this be a smart buy? these things seem very hard to find used as they don't pop up nearly as much as other types.

anything to be worried about? Owner claims meticulous main't with 2500-3k mobil 1.

thanks everyone!

thanks, no worry about spamming but i hate to double post "is this a good buy" but nevertheless...

When i started looking at these a year or so ago i couldn't believe the following this ugly bike had! Since then i've sold the other two road bikes and the klr remains!

Where are you located. There are a few better deals here in the for sale section.

there are but i have no option to fly n ride and dealers, despite sitting on new 09's have no desire to deal in cash they are still asking 6500+. I'd rather buy private, not tax, help someone out, usually get a better deal.

I spent $4,400 on a 2009 blue 4k with an extra seat (low gel) which I sold for some $100's.

Ignore what the dealers are asking for the 09. Just go in and make your offer. All they can do is say no. This is similar to buying a used car. No matter what the "sticker" is , make an offer. You may be surprised.

My best 2 deals were both on Mazda 626. The 85 had asking price of 5400 dollars. I picked it up for 3900. Keep only one thing in mind, the dealer must sell, and they will never take a loss.

Give it your best shot, but be there in person, not a phone call. In person, with your money in hand. Show them some CASH so they know you are serious. Again, all they can do is say no.

Welcome!
I also thinned the herd when I got my Versys. Kept the KLR
I would have no problems buying private party on a V with 10k on it. Most of these folks really take care of these ugly bikes! Meeting the seller at his place will give you an idea of what kind of guy he is. Bring cash. Bring a friend (someone to drive the car home), and check the bike out thoroughly, lots of info online on buying a used bike. If you still feel comfortable then make the deal.

Sounds fairly reasonable. I agree with the folks above about giving an offer to the dealers.

Mine was an 08 with 6k, Speedy lowering kit & flat foot, Givi windscreen. It was listed for 5999, too much and I wasn't ready anyway. Went back 6 months later (in Nov) and it was still there but down to 4999. I said 4500. They said pay cash. I said store it for the winter. They said DEAL!

I bought my '09 with 12000 on it for $3750, so I would say that sounds pretty reasonable
