Purchasing a Versys and accessorizing

Upon deciding the Versys was the bike for me I phoned every dealer in my region and nobody wanted to deal. Ended up getting a local dealer to somewhat split the difference on a 2011 as opposed to me driving to Orlando. Upon the set up, a leak in the fuel tank was discovered. I was informed Friday at 5:00 expecting to pick up on Sat. Long story short, dealer couldn't deliver by second p/u date and never offered any incentive so I walked. Got a 2009 later for $2000. less OTD in Tallahassee. Installed the new mirrors, extenders, Barkbusters, Rack and cases myself. Had the crash bars installed for $37.50 at an independent cycle shop (30 minutes). No problems with anything, haven't noticed any increase in vibes after the bars were installed and my mirror view is perfectly clear. I'm considering clamp on pegs for the bars to relieve my knees periodically. I have considered the peg lowering kit but I'm a heavy rider and probably shouldn't risk it. I see a green Versys on US 98 in South Walton County occasionally, maybe the owner is here too.

I wouldn't worry about your weight affecting the foot-peg lowering blocks from Speedy (MotoWerk) - they are beautifully made, and quite substantial!

The only other mod I would suggest is an aftermarket windshield like the VStream. I love mine as it significantly reduces the wind on my body but I also live in a much colder climate where that is important. It is also much higher quality than the stock shield. You will appreciate the engine bars and bark-busters the first time you drop your bike and it is completely unharmed.

Curious what hard bag and mounting system you have.

As far as being a heavy rider i'm in the same boat 275 plus lbs before gear. The moto werk peg lowering blocks and mirror extenders were the first things i bought for my bike. Have a bad left knee from football and the blocks took alot of pressure of the knees. The extenders made it able to see more than my shoulders in the mirrors.

Thanks for the recommendation for the motowerk peg lowering blocks. I have their mirror extenders with Z1000 mirrors and am very pleased with the mirrors now.
