A little more info....
I have done dirt bikes, street bikes, sport bikes, track days, etc. etc.

Recently sold a few bikes and have shifted my attention more towards taking trips and doing some ADV type stuff.

Just did an Iron Butt ride (1,000 mile) on my old 1984 Honda Nighthawk S.

Have an XR 250 that is street legal that I play on - dirt and asphalt.

Also a few other bikes to play with.

I am hoping to own a Versys soon, with plans for the next step of Iron Butt (>1500 miles in <24 hours) and then a ride out west next May or June.

You'll love the V. Especially if you get the fast one!

I hope to have the fast color. I like it best.

I see you are in eastern NC. Nice area. I think it has become my second home over the last 8 years or so.

I plan to be there this weekend, and hope to stop by to see a V for sale in Blairsville, Ga. and one in Murphy. The one in Murphy is the fast color.

I haven't ridden one yet. Only sat on a few.
I felt like I'd be fastest on a Green one.

Kawasaki's race color is green so green is definitely the fast color. That is why I bought the 2011 Red one. I need to start slowing down, but it is hard on the Versys.

I pass near Birmingham many times a year. I love 25 south of Leeds, and most of the roads to the west of Birmingham near the coal mines. I avoid the interstates as much as possible.

Actually orange is the fastest of all the models but there is not a lot of that elite group. All the best with finding a versys whatever the colour

Hey Brian, welcome!

I used to live in T-town and occasionally make trips to Birmingham during my college days. Now I am half way across the globe, back home. Hope you find the fast V BTW, I still keep scores with the Tide, and they are doing really well this year. Not sure if you are on the elephant side or the tigers? Whichever it is, Alabama is a nice state to live in. (8.5 years in T-town). Left in 2000.

I graduated from Univ of Alabama in 1985.
So that makes me a Tide fan.

If all goes well, I will own a 2009 fast color (green) Versys in two days.

Cool! I graduated in 1996 and again in 1998 from Alabama. Roll Tide!

Enjoy the fast V. It's a blast to ride. Hope to visit Alabama again one day.

Leeds

I moved to DFW from Gadsden, AL about 4 years ago. Loved B'ham and became a Tide fan in the process.

For anyone travelling through the Birmingham area, take time to stop at Barber Motorsports in Leeds, AL. Mr. Barber is a tycoon who made a ton of money in the dairy business. His passion is motorcycle racing. He built the track to host international racing events and did a beautiful job.

On site is one of the premier motorcycle museums in the country. Block out about 2 to 3 hours and walk the exhibits. They are amazing! Most of the bikes were refurbished on site.
