Hello

I am a new member. I am picking up my new Imperial red Versys on Wednesday. SOOOO excited. The dealership said, to break it in, Keep it between 3000 and 8000 RPM for 1000 KMs, but just don;t keep the same RPM for long. Does this sound right?

Welcome!! Always great to have a new member.....there's a lot o' good stuff on here, folks and info.

My manual says not to go over 4,000 rpm for the first 800 km, and not to go over 6,000 rpm from there to 1,600 km. I bought mine very slightly used with only 1,500 miles and I can only HOPE it was broke in right. It is very important. And the dealer is right that you don't want to keep it at the same rpm. I had the fortune to be able to ride both of my brother's Speed Triples home from the dealer. I made sure I kept the revs varied and went smoothly through the gears.

it is correct what MntVersys said... your dealer is wrong... 8000 rpm max is too much for break in... and don't forget about change your oil not just @ the first 1,000 kms.
I followed the recommendation of "I don't remember who" in this forum that say to change the oil at the first 100 kms using just a regular oil (not the best one), then change it again at 500Kms and then, change it again using your "good" oil and filter @ 1000 kms. This is because the in the break in period, there's a lot of metal filings and particles in the oil so it's not good to keep it there for 1000 kms.
Hope it helps you!

i rode mine up to 4 k till 600 kms, then gradually moved to 5k till 1000. after service rode it slowly to 6k, and now with 1600km starting to get to 8k. that was when i got a fine for speeding.... hope it helps, regards

new versys

I just brought a 2011 Versys on July 2nd and they told me the same thing....break it in easy for first 500 miles and then bring in for service...after 500 mile service they told me to ride it like I stole it....
