New '08 in Portland, OR

After much deliberation, I recently purchased a red '08 that had 1K on the clock. It was purchased new in Apr of this year. I chose the Versys as a replacement for my '08 BMW XCountry because I wanted something smoother and with better on-pavement manners, as that is what I ride this bike on almost exclusively. As you guys know, there are not a lot of choices in this category of bike--650 or so cc, twin, 17s f/r, an upright/standard riding position, moderately priced, good for commuting--or at least not very many that I fancied.

A few things I need to address:

- need to dial in the suspension settings, as best as they can
- a bleed and top-off didn't fix the very mushy brakes, so I need to completely flush out the 3+ year old, though clean looking, brake fluid
- battery was changed -- as it was from '08

Otherwise, I'm very happy so far with this bike.

Cheers,
-mat

Might want to consider braided brake lines and sintered pads up front to really sweeten up the braking.

Mat have a 08 myself and have not long done the 3 year brake fluid change, have not done it myself but braided brake lines would be a good upgrade.
getting suspension dialed in to your style of riding makes a huge dif on your rides, pleanty of good advice here.

Thanks. Yeah, have that suspension link, among quite a few others, bookmarked.

Are there standard-order SS brake lines out there, correct length and fittings? I'll search too ...

I used All Bike Brakes but there are numerous reputable vendors for both the lines and pads. The "race lines" let you do away with the crossover line.
