Ooops . . .

forgot the "help" part...

Started the scoot the other morning and heard a high pitch whine coming from the engine. turned off the bike, and the starter was still going. turned off the key and the starter CONTINUED to run. hit the starter button and it (finally) stopped. hasn't happened since. hadn't been riding in rain . . . any ideas?!?

thanks!

Starter button is mechanically stuck, I presumed. Some cleaning is required although I am not sure how to go about it. U can try Contact cleaner, to wash off any grit that has accumulated.

Check starter relay... What's your mileage?

I've just got to ask since electrically the starter will not function without the key in the on position. Are you absolutely sure it was the starter motor? The fuel pump and cooling fan can run with the key off and both make a high pitch whining sound, albeit a much more subtle one.

Starter relay may stick in closed position, and keep the starter operating with ignition off.

Check the starter relay as Invaders said and do also check your starter button as well.

I thought it might be a new Versys on warranty ... Have the dealer check it ASAP if it does happen again.
