New V rider in KC

Hi all! I bought my green 09' Versys with 6k miles about 2 months ago and couldn't be happier with it. This is my 3rd bike but the first two were pretty old (78' GS and a 84' Nighthawk - still have it for now) and not very reliable so I'm really cutting my teeth with the V. I'm kinda tall (6'3") and needed a bike that was tall enough for me, but I'm on the skinny side so I didn't wanna deal with some 1500cc behemoth, so it's been perfect. The bike is stock right now but I'm planning on getting panniers for camping and long trips. I'm leaning towards the Happy Trails Teton setup, any thoughts? I also need a bigger windscreen as the stock one is pretty much useless at speed for my height.

Anyone on here in the KC area? I haven't seen another V on the road yet so it would be cool to ride with one sometime.

The forum has been a great help so far so I figured I better start posting so I can ask some questions in some other threads. Bye for now!

Aboard!! I do not have any experience with Happy Trails stuff. But be advised that some have had some pretty bad experiences.... http://www.kawasakiversys.com/forums...ad.php?t=14718

On the flip side, some really love the Happy Trails stuff. Just want you to have a heads up since you specifically mentioned them.

Ride Safe!

Not saying the products are bad, just seems people are having issues with deliveries and missing parts that are remedied buy Happy Trails, just have to go through the trouble of calling them.

timah, before doing too much distance riding you may want to also look into foot peg lowering blocks. Your height suggests to me a little more legroom may benefit you. Do a couple hundred mile ride and the bike may make you aware of the need. Seat mod. may be needed too.

I'm in KC about once a month, but so far only once on my bike. I am thinking I'll do another bike trip to KC early this fall.

I'm in Prairie Village. I've had my Versys for what three years I think. I have the factory hard bags for trips.

Welcome aboard. I'm just a little south of you.

I too have an '09 with the factory Givi's. Beware, the membership here will expose you to the dreaded farkling disease. If afflicted, be prepared for many hours on this site and other "twisted" locations. The symptoms will range from the gotta haves to the can't live withouts as the disease progresses on a march toward perfection. One thing you will need to get used to from your significant other is the response of "what did you get for your bike now" whenever an obscure cardboard box shows up at the house

Here's a sample of how far it had come last fall.

Thanks to all the help here, it advanced more over the winter......
I've got some pretty good day rides mapped out in the area. If you'd like to try and get a KC group together let me know.
