New from Seattle

So I picked up my green '09 versys last july as my first bike. Enjoyed it very much so far and figured I'd introduce myself on here.

Ride it about 26 miles a day when weather cooperates, all freeway. Up to right around 1000 miles total after it sat in the garage most of the winter. How soon do I need to change the oil? I'm guessing every 1500-2000 miles or so? I didn't get an owner's manual.

Decided to fix the buzz yesterday and am now riding with no windshield.

Love all of the info on the site, lots of good stuff.

The manual says every 12,000 kms (7500 miles) which seems quite high to me. I changed the oil on my 2011 at 300 miles but plan on changing it at the most every 4-5,000 miles or at least once a season
Enjoy the V I sure do !

Welcome. I ride an '09 myself and still need to fix the "buzz". You've bought a really fun and versatile bike.

I just did my 600-mile service on my 2011, and as I picked up my bike they said "see you at 4,000 miles." Manual says something along the lines of 3,700.

Welcome. Glad you are enjoying your Versys. As Wiskee just mentioned you should do the 600 mile sometime soon. As for the rest, I do oil changes around 2000 +/- or right after a multi day highway ride. Just my habit with only 2 qt capacity. Again, enjoy. Frog

welcome from colorado!

ok,I gotta ask!...Have you changed your oil since you have owned your bike?...because the 1st 300 to 500 miles is the best time for the first oil change...also,A quick fix on the buzz around your speedo is to stuff about 1inch foam inbetween your speedo and the cover to pretty much elimanate that stupid buzz at 4000rpm!...i cut a piece about 5 inch by 4 inch by 1 inch thick piece of soft foam..FYI....
