Welcome. Since you're ordering, are you having any of the accessories added on? What color are you going with?

Left the dealer this AM and have a question for you all. I have a choice of ABS or non ABS. The green I want is in stock without ABS, the the other with ABS is 3 hours away. Not a problem there. I think I want ABS but about 50% of my riding will be on dirt and or gravel. I've heard the reasons for and against as to off slab riding but now I'm not sure. I'm thinking that maybe I want ABS.

I getting the crash bars, center stand (out of stock) and the 12v adapter. Looking at going with a more aggressive tire tread but will do the stock for now. Any comments welcome

Welcome From Canada

to the forum, your question is best answered by others, I had a XL250R and a DRZ400S, also a 07 Versys, non had ABS, I now have a 2015 Versys with ABS, some situations are beyond your control, usually in traffic, my ABS has prevented at least 3 collisions / crashes, all on pavement, 2 in heavy traffic, 2 times I was starting from a stop and only had my rear brake accessible. I use engine braking extensively also my front brake is 90% of my braking at times, the third time I had heavy gloves on and couldn't grab the front brake in time, and I was really moving, a dud decided he was going to cut across in front of me from a stop, probably didn't notice me until the sound of my rear tire , was at 50 miles per hour. I have since installed shorty leavers , so no more issues reaching the front brake.Hope that helps, and I would not disable my ABS for any reason, going on 14,000 KM now.

Thanks Onewizard for the in depth reply. I think you convinced me that I want ABS. I guess in your cases you would have laid down the bike without the ABS and possibly injured where with the ABS you stayed on two wheels. Whatever the shortcomings might be on gravel or dirt I'm thinking they don't override the benefits while on the slab and the speeds are higher there. Thanks again.

I've been on the fence about ABS as well, but after considering that I will most likely be an 80/20 slab/dirt rider, it makes more sense to have it than not. I will be getting the three add-ons that you mentioned, and eventually adding more-reasonably priced aux lights. Did the dealer give you a timeline as to when the bike would be ready? Be sure to post up pics when you can. I'm excited for you, and can't wait to get my own.

Dealer says the Lime color with ABS is 3 hrs. away and could be picked up and prepped by next week. I'm now leaning towards the ABS. Just read through the manual and it even says there that off road on loose surface the ABS could take a little longer to stop. Since my speed will be lower in most of those cases I guess I can live with and plan for that, just as long as I'm not headed for the edge of a cliff in Utah.
